CALVING SEASON |

As we are gear up for calving it’s a good time to think about your lifestyle needs. Although there are aspects of calving which are out of our control, breached animals, premature births to name a few. We can control the genetics which we put in our herds. We can disillusion ourselves that a big calf is always an asset. But is it? These big calves cost in time, vets, fertility, and sleepless nights. We know from the annual 12,000 calving records that the Stabiliser average birthweight is 37kg. This means, cows can calve unassisted, with minimal stress allowing calves to get up and suckle on their own and go on to grow. What's not to like? |
